ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a recent escalation of tensions, a Turkish drone launched a targeted strike on a convoy of PKK militants traversing Mount Sinjar on Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 2024.

Reports from a security source, relayed to Kurdistan24, indicate that the attack occurred near the Sardasht camp, a settlement on Mount Sinjar where displaced persons (IDPs) from the Sinjar region have sought refuge.

Tragically, the strike claimed the life of the vehicle's driver, while inflicting injuries upon two other who were traveling in the convoy, the source confirmed.

The incident underscores the ongoing conflict dynamics in the region, with Mount Sinjar serving as a volatile flashpoint for clashes between various armed groups and international actors.

Turkish military operations targeting PKK positions, particularly in bordering regions, have been frequent in recent years, reflecting Ankara's commitment to combating what it considers as terrorist threats.

Meanwhile, Kurdish forces and local inhabitants in the Sinjar area continue to grapple with the fallout of conflict and displacement, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
