ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a prominent figure seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has died in a tragic helicopter crash near the Azerbaijani border, officials and media reported.

The untimely death of President Raisi has elicited a wave of condolences from world leaders and dignitaries.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the wake of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and several other high-ranking officials.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has expressed his condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran following the tragic deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian, and several companions in a helicopter crash.

In Abu Dhabi, UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his deepest condolences on social media, stating, "the UAE stands in solidarity with Iran at this difficult time."

Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani also extended his sympathies on Platform X, saying, "Sincere condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and the accompanying officials."

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi conveyed his condolences through the Egyptian presidency, emphasizing Egypt's support for the Iranian leadership and people during this tragedy.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad sent his condolences to the Iranian leadership, marking the profound loss.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani expressed his sorrow, stating, "It is with great sadness that we have heard the news of the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and their companions in a plane crash in northern Iran." He further conveyed his condolences to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Iranian government, and the Iranian people.

In Lebanon, Hezbollah offered its condolences, recognizing the significant loss to Iran. The Palestinian Hamas movement also mourned Raisi's death, praising his steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov extended his condolences from Moscow, highlighting the deep impact of Raisi's death on the international stage.

The People's Republic of China also expressed its condolences to the government of Iran, stating "Since taking office, President Raisi has made important contributions to safeguarding Iran’s security and stability and promoting national development and prosperity, and has made active efforts to consolidate and grow the Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership."

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared a day of mourning in Pakistan, writing on Platform X, "I along with the government and people of Pakistan extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the Iranian nation on this terrible loss."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound sadness over Raisi's death, while the President of the Council of Europe offered condolences from Brussels.

 

Iranian media on Monday reported the death of President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation after their helicopter crashed in a rugged mountainous area in northwest Iran. The helicopter, which went missing on Sunday, was found with "no sign" of life in the wreckage.

Mehr News Agency announced, "Mr. Ebrahim Raisi was martyred" along with Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian.

Official media broadcast a picture of Raisi accompanied by verses from the Holy Quran, though an official announcement is still pending. Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and other officials expressed condolences on social media.

State television reported that a Turkish drone located the crash site and alerted Iranian rescue teams. Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Pir Hossein Kolivand, confirmed the discovery of the helicopter, stating, “The situation is not good.”
