Scent of success as Suhaila, Mohammed share their success story
For the past six years, Suhaila’s perfumes have gained fame in Ciwanro city and Kermanshah province. Last year, they even exported some of their products to the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The profession of rosewater production and perfumery has been steadily growing in the north-western provinces of Iran, also known as Eastern Kurdistan, with an increasing area of agricultural land being dedicated to this craft each year.
Flower gardens and the art of perfumery require minimal capital, with the primary investment being a small factory that can be set up at home at a low cost.
Mohammed and Suhaila, a married couple, are at the forefront of this burgeoning profession. Every morning at 6 am, they tend to their rose garden, where the flowers are picked early to maximize fragrance and bloom quality.
Several years ago, Suhaila planted a single seedling in her garden out of personal interest. Over time, that single seedling multiplied, and now the couple boasts around 500 seedlings.
The abundance of flowers inspired them to start producing rosewater and perfumes to prevent the blooms from going to waste.
“We started with a single flower and now we have planted roses throughout our garden,” Mohammed said.
“The value of the flowers now exceeds that of the garden itself. We've been involved in both planting flowers and perfumery for a while now, and it has become our source of income and our profession,” he continued.
After harvesting the flowers, the couple returns home where Suhaila begins the rosewater production process.
They harvest 15 kilograms of flowers daily. Due to the small size of their flowering machine, they process these 15 kilograms twice, each session taking five hours and yielding between 10 and 12 liters of perfume.
“Our production is completely natural; we don't use any chemicals. We just use cold water in the machine, which produces hot water, and we extract the essence by dripping for about six hours, resulting in 12 liters of rosewater,” Suhaila explained.
For the past six years, Suhaila’s rosewater have gained fame in Ciwanro city and Kermanshah province. Last year, they even exported some of their products to the Kurdistan Region.
The perfumery and rosewater production season begins in mid-May and lasts for at least a month. Initially producing thirty liters of perfume in the first year, Suhaila’s production has increased tenfold to 300 liters this year.
