KRG releases second-year Human Rights report

The KRG Coordinator’s office for International Advocacy has issued its human rights’ report of the second year of the human rights plan for 2021-25.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Coordinator for International Advocacy has published its human rights report for the second year of the 2021-2025 human rights plan.

The report includes investigations into illegal actions, convictions, torture, domestic abuse, violence, human trafficking, and efforts to counter discrimination.

The report encompasses all complaints recorded by the courts, detailing a total of 18,620 complaints.

Of these, 1,733 were applicants to the crime court, while 16,887 complaints were registered in the court of investigation.

The report notes that 10,897 cases have been resolved, with 1,071 cases concluded in the crime court and 9,826 cases remaining unresolved.

Highlighted in the report is the issue of gender-based violence, with a total of 1,086 cases reported.

Of these, 496 cases involved female victims, while 590 cases involved male victims. The report categorizes the causes of violence into five main factors: family status (991 cases), with 84 cases involving single individuals and the remainder involving married individuals.

The types of abuse reported include 319 cases of physical abuse and assault, 423 cases of emotional and psychological abuse, 21 cases of sexual assault, and 307 cases of various other forms of abuse.

Specific perpetrators identified in the report include fathers (40 cases), mothers (21 cases), brothers (50 cases), husbands (759 cases), and other individuals (230 cases).
