High temperatures force Basra residents to venture out only in evenings, nights
The cooler evenings offer a brief respite from the oppressive daytime temperatures, allowing residents to socialize and enjoy outdoor activities.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Due to extreme heat in Basra province, residents are compelled to stay indoors during the day and only leave their homes in the evenings and at night. Temperatures often exceed 50 degrees Celsius in the morning, making it unbearable for people to venture outside.
Basra's streets and parks remain deserted during the day as the scorching heat forces residents to seek refuge indoors.
A resident told Kurdistan 24, "We go out shortly before evening or after dinner because the temperatures are very high during the day. It is 6:30 pm now, but I am sweating and my body is tired. The weather is very hot."
Another resident explained the difficulty of going out during the day, stating, "Most of our outings are in the evening because the weather is hot. Baghdad and Karbala are still better than Basra in terms of temperature. We don't leave our homes in the morning because the temperature reaches over 50 degrees Celsius. It is as if it is boiling outside!"
To escape the heat, many residents head to shopping malls and other indoor spaces, as the high temperatures pose a risk of serious illness.
"As you can see, people come to parks and pleasant places in the evening because there is no point in going out in the morning. This place, where I am now, in the evening is the best and most pleasant place in Basra because it is by the river," another resident remarked.
In the evenings, despite the lingering heat, the setting sun brings some relief, prompting people to visit parks and public places.
