Qushtapa Silo is in operation, stores 40000 tons wheat

The Manager of Qushtapa Silo Ismail Ahmed declared “The silo can store 40,000 tons wheat, it has 11 sections and 16 storages, and each storage can keep 2000- and 500-tons wheat.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Qushtapa Silo has the capacity of storing 40,000 tons wheat, it is one of the recently built warehouses, so to buy the wheat and all other grain products from farmer in Kurdistan Region. This silo opened its service to public on June 25, 2024, in which the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attended the opening ceremony.

The total cost to build such grain warehouse was 21 billion and 276 million dinars, the Department of Media and Information at the Kurdistan Region Government announced that this year the wheat will be bought from farmers in Shamamk, Segrdkan and Balisan.

The Manager of Qushtapa Silo Ismail Ahmed declared “The silo can store 40,000 tons wheat, it has 11 sections and 16 storages, and each storage can keep 2000- and 500-tons wheat.”

“Such service took too much work off the farmers’ shoulders, i.e. on one day they can hand over all of their grain crop.” He said.

This project offered the farmers a significant support, as well as off-loaded the pressure on other silos in Erbil city. The 9th Cabinet of the Kurdistan Region Government emphasized that the agriculture sector is an essential element of the region's infrastructure.

Under the 9th Cabinet ruling, many silos built, for example in Bardarash, Kalar and Qushtapa. They can store up to 120 thousand tons of wheat, the total cost of building those silos was 85 billion Iraqi dinars.
