ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – During a town hall meeting with Sulaimani province residents and the Garmiyan and Raparin independent administrations, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani underscored the ninth cabinet’s ongoing commitment to providing equitable services to all citizens.

Addressing the perennial issue of salary distribution, Prime Minister Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) efforts to reach a lasting agreement with the Iraqi government.

Barzani emphasized the sovereign power of citizens, encouraging them to take action against any perceived judicial interference or injustice by exercising their voting rights. "Citizens are the ultimate rulers of this country," he declared. "They must not remain silent in the face of oppression and must hold parties accountable during elections."

Highlighting the significant role of rural areas, Barzani praised the villages' contributions to past revolutions, stating that current progress directly results from their sacrifices. He also pointed out the destruction of 4,500 villages under the Baath regime, which led to significant urban migration. To counteract this, the government has focused on reviving the agricultural sector and improving water infrastructure, fostering the revival of some villages.

Addressing concerns about the poor state of roads in Garmiyan, Raparin, and Halabja, Barzani attributed past delays to financial crises, budget cuts by Baghdad, and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he noted that some projects have commenced, thanks to private sector involvement and investor support, particularly in Erbil and Duhok. He urged investors in Sulaimani to follow suit.

The premier also touched on the KRG's plans to digitize the economy, aiming to provide long-term loans to young people to start their businesses. He acknowledged the limited job opportunities but assured that the government is doing its utmost to create employment and encourage self-employment among the youth.

Addressing the audience, Barzani stressed, "We don’t discriminate. We look at all of Kurdistan with the same eyes. I do not recognize the yellow and green zones."

In response to a query regarding the Anfal victims, Barzani expressed the KRG's readiness to assist with the return of bodies. Reflecting on his loss during Anfal, he said, "My uncle and cousin were killed in Anfal. We don’t discriminate between martyrs. When I visit the grave of any Anfal victim, I see it as the grave of my uncle and cousin. There is no difference between martyrs."

Barzani's address reiterated his administration's commitment to equity, progress, and the well-being of all citizens in the Kurdistan Region.
