ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a coordinated effort to combat ISIS activity, the 14th Infantry Brigade of the Peshmerga Ministry joined forces with the 50th Infantry Brigade and the 14th Division of the Iraqi Army to conduct a significant joint operation.

This collaborative mission targeted strategic areas including the villages of Kushaf, the slopes of Mount Qarachogh, and the banks of the Great Zab River, searching for ISIS hideouts and bases.

The Peshmerga Ministry reported that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to address security vulnerabilities that have plagued the region since the aftermath of the Kurdistan Region's independence referendum in 2017.

Following the referendum, Iraqi forces expelled the Kurdish Peshmerga from disputed territories in Kirkuk, Makhmour, and Nineveh, leading to security gaps that ISIS has since exploited.

In response to these threats, the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces have intensified their operations to prevent any resurgence of ISIS in these strategically important areas. The recent joint operation marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to stabilize the region and ensure the safety of its inhabitants.
