Four European nations sign letter of intent for long-range strike capabilities
The French Defense Ministry stated that the document, signed by the defense ministers of the four nations, paves the way for "cooperation measures aimed at strengthening our military capabilities as well as the European industrial and defense base."
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - France, Germany, Italy, and Poland signed a letter of intent during a NATO summit in Washington on Thursday to collaborate on the production and development of long-range strike capabilities.
The French Defense Ministry stated that the document, signed by the defense ministers of the four nations, paves the way for "cooperation measures aimed at strengthening our military capabilities as well as the European industrial and defense base."
The ministry also mentioned that other partners might be invited to join the initiative, potentially utilizing European funding.
French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, emphasized the financial benefits of this collaboration, noting that it allows for cost reductions by making the initiative widely accessible.
Lecornu highlighted that France could leverage its existing MdCN, also known as SCALP Naval, sea-to-surface missile program to develop technology adaptable for producing surface-to-surface missiles.
The MdCN, a naval cruise missile developed by MBDA in 2006, is currently used by the French Army.
