KRG launches fish stocking initiative with 200,000 fingerlings in Dukan lake
This effort underscores the KRG's commitment to enhancing the agricultural and livestock sectors.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Sunday, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) announced a major fish stocking initiative, releasing 200,000 fingerlings into the Dukan Lake.
This effort underscores the KRG's commitment to enhancing the agricultural and livestock sectors.
Fish stocking involves releasing artificially raised fish into natural bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes, or oceans, to bolster existing wild populations or establish new ones.
Karim Sulaiman, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources of the KRG, stated in a press conference that the Ministry's Training Directorate has produced 500,000 fingerlings this year.
“We visited the Dukan Lake today and put 200,000 fingerlings into the lake to increase fish production. Today, people consume not only red meat but also white meat,” Sulaiman said.
He added, "One of the main reasons for constructing dams in the Kurdistan Region is to boost fish production. We hope this initiative will be successful and lead to increased fish production. The Kurdistan Regional Government has paid great attention to agriculture and livestock sectors."
