Young Kurdish scholar wins first place in prestigious scientific competition in Abu Dhabi

His achievement stands out among 400 research papers submitted by 64 universities from 14 countries.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Amir Hamid Majeed, a young Kurdish researcher, has secured first place in a scientific competition in Abu Dhabi with his research paper on recognizing visual symbols of handwritten Syriac text.

His achievement stands out among 400 research papers submitted by 64 universities from 14 countries.

Amir, along with four of his colleagues, participated in the 11th Research and Innovation Competition at Abu Dhabi University.

His paper, titled "Optical Character Recognition for Handwritten Syriac Text," earned him first place, marking the first time a Kurdish student has won this prestigious competition.

Upon his return, Amir was received by the President of the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr, Professor Keith Sharp, who presented him with the award. Additionally, the Vice President of the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr, Dr. Dana Mawloud, the Acting Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, Dr. Tarik A. Rashid, and Dr. Hossein Hassani, congratulated Amir during a special meeting, celebrating his remarkable achievement.
