"Turtles Can Fly" named among world's top 20 most-watched films

Despite being produced 20 years ago, the film continues to captivate audiences with its unique charm and profound storytelling.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdish film critic Mansour Jehani has hailed "Turtles Can Fly," directed by renowned Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi, as one of the twenty most-watched films globally.

"Turtles Can Fly" has participated in over 100 international film festivals and has garnered more than 50 international awards.

This recognition solidifies Ghobadi's status as a filmmaker celebrated by both Kurdistan and Iran, Jehani told Kurdistan 24.

Jehani noted that the American movie website Movieweb recently included "Turtles Can Fly" in its list of the 20 best international films.

The list of films on Movieweb includes notable titles such as Paul Haggis' "Crash," Terry George's "Hotel Rwanda," Jonathan Demme's "The Manchurian Candidate," Alexander Payne's "Sideways," Hayao Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle," Brad Bird's "The Incredibles," Michel Gondry's "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow," Nick Cassavetes' "The Notebook," and Rob Letterman's "Shark Tale."

Other acclaimed films on the list include "C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America" by Kevin Willmott, "Napoleon Dynamite" by Jared Hess, "Saved!" by Brian Dannelly, "Catwoman" by Pitof, "Friday Night Lights" by Peter Berg and Josh Pate, "Mean Girls" by Mark Waters, "My Summer of Love" by Pawel Pawlikowski, "A Good Woman" by Mike Barker, and "Dawn of the Dead" by Zack Snyder.
