Kurdistan Region students shine at 65th International Mathematics Olympiad

The IMO is the largest and most competitive mathematics competition for high school students worldwide, featuring participants from 109 countries this year.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Three students from Ishik School achieved remarkable success at the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), with two of them winning bronze medals.

Ali Miqdad Mawlood and Hatem Miqdad Mawlood secured bronze medals at this prestigious event, which took place from July 11-22, 2024, in the UK.

The IMO is the largest and most competitive mathematics competition for high school students worldwide, featuring participants from 109 countries this year.

In total, five high school students from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region competed in the Olympiad, including three from Erbil and two from other Iraqi cities.

Prior to the competition, students underwent a rigorous selection process involving three different tests administered by their high school administrations. The top five students, considered the brightest in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, were chosen to represent their countries.

The achievements of Ali Miqdad Mawlood and Hatem Miqdad Mawlood highlight the exceptional mathematical talent emerging from the Kurdistan Region and its continued commitment to academic excellence on the global stage.
