ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - On Thursday, Milan Petrović, Assistant to the Mayor of the Pirot Region in Serbia, along with a delegation of Serbian businessmen and entrepreneurs, engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations with the Kurdistan Region.
In a press conference, Shukri Jamil, President of the Duhok Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the chamber's strategic focus on enhancing relations with various countries, particularly in Europe, to benefit Duhok's economy.
"We aim to increase Kurdistan's economic engagement internationally, including the export of local products and services," Jamil stated.
The discussions with the Serbian delegation centered on opportunities in agriculture, industry, and trade. "We introduced the delegation to investment opportunities in Kurdistan, encouraging them to contribute to the further development of these sectors," Jamil added.
Milan Petrović and his delegation arrived in Erbil on August 14, 2024, where they met with Gaylan Haji Saeed, President of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting focused on the potential for bolstering trade relations between Serbia and the Kurdistan Region.
"Trade relations between Iraq and Serbia were historically strong but have declined in recent years due to various challenges," said Petrović. He noted that Serbia's current annual trade turnover with Iraq stands at $406 million, indicating room for growth. "Our visit aims to revitalize and expand trade relations with Iraq, especially with the Kurdistan Region," he emphasized.
Petrović also highlighted Serbia's capacity to export a wide range of products directly to Kurdistan, with a particular focus on the agricultural and food sectors.
