ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Saturday, the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army carried out a significant joint operation aimed at dismantling ISIS terrorist strongholds.
The operation, which focused on searching for ISIS hideouts and bases, took place in two villages along Kushaf and the Greater Zab coast.
This followed a similar effort by the 22nd Infantry Brigade of the Peshmerga Ministry on Friday, August 16, 2024, around the village of Qara Hasan and the Leylan district.
According to a statement from the Peshmerga Ministry, these operations are part of an ongoing campaign to root out remaining ISIS elements in the region.
The operation, which commenced early in the morning, lasted for five hours. Local villagers expressed their appreciation for the Peshmerga's role and voiced their hope for continued security efforts.
This enduring threat underscores the importance of the ongoing military operations aimed at preventing any resurgence of ISIS and ensuring the safety of Iraq’s diverse religious communities.
