Sulaimani cancer cases steady, early detection key, says hospital director

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Hiwa Hospital Director Yad Naqshbandi announced that 1,416 cancer cases have been registered in Sulaimani since the beginning of the year, with 3,000 cancer codes opened, though not all represent confirmed diagnoses.

"The number of cancer cases hasn't increased significantly compared to last year," Naqshbandi stated at a press conference.

He emphasized the critical importance of early detection, saying, "The most important thing is how we work to ensure that most of the cases that come to the hospital are in the early stages."

Kurdistan Region Cancer Rate Below International Average, Says Health Minister

In related news, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Health Minister Saman Barzanji addressed a press conference on Thursday, revealing that the cancer rate in the Kurdistan Region is lower than the international standard.

He stated that while 190 people per 100,000 are diagnosed with cancer globally, the rate in the Kurdistan Region is 151 per 100,000.

Minister Barzanji also highlighted the provision of healthcare services, stating that 100% of chemotherapy treatment is provided to cancer patients in public hospitals.
