ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — On Tuesday, in response to the fire incident at the Parvez Khan International Gateway, the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has taken swift action by forming a committee to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The fire, which erupted in a fuel truck parking lot at the border gate on Monday, claimed the life of one driver and left seven others injured.

On Tuesday, KRG Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad issued a ministerial decree, invoking the authority granted to him under the Ministry of Interior Law No. 6 of 2009.

The decree established a committee tasked with conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident.

The committee is composed of key representatives from various government bodies, including:

- Brigadier Hussein Sherzad Soz Ali: Representative of Garmian Independent Administration

The fire at the Parvez Khan border gate led to a large-scale explosion involving multiple fuel tankers, which ignited and caused significant damage.

According to preliminary reports, casualties were reported as a result of the explosion, with ambulances from Kalar and Kermanshah swiftly dispatched to the scene to assist.

Kurdistan24's reporter in Garmian Independent Administration provided updates on the situation, stating, “A large number of fuel tankers exploded and burned at the international gate of Parvez Khan. The cause of the explosion and burning of the tankers is still unknown, and civil defense teams and emergency vehicles are on their way to the scene to control the fire and rescue the injured.”

As investigations commence, the focus remains on determining the exact cause of the fire and ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future.

The KRG has expressed its commitment to transparency in the investigation process and to providing support to the affected individuals and their families.

The Parvez Khan International Border Crossing, located in Kurdistan Region, is a critical trade route between Iraq and Iran, and the fire has raised concerns about the safety protocols in place at such vital infrastructure points.

The findings of the committee’s investigation are expected to be crucial in addressing these concerns and enhancing safety measures at the border gate.
