Erbil municipality pursues green initiatives despite challenges

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Erbil Municipality Head, Karzan Hadi, highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) commitment to expanding green spaces in Erbil despite facing obstacles from the Iraqi government.
Hadi revealed that the Iraqi government has created numerous hurdles for the KRG, particularly regarding projects in Erbil. However, the KRG remains dedicated to providing essential services and is actively working to increase green spaces within the city.
"In less than two months, we have laid the foundation stone of two greening projects, one at the intersection of Rashkin and the other at the intersection of the Mosul road," Hadi told Kurdistan 24.
He emphasized the priority given to service and repair projects, especially those concerning public streets. The Erbil directorate of gardens and parks engineering has been actively planting trees along public roads, contributing significantly to the greening efforts.
Hadi further mentioned the ongoing construction of a park in the Jiyan neighborhood and stated that both short-term and long-term plans are in place to build more projects in the future.

The master plan revision also includes provisions for increased greenery, aiming to ensure a healthier environment for Erbil and its residents.
Despite the obstacles, the KRG's dedication to enhancing Erbil's green spaces and providing essential services remains steadfast.
