Sisterhood Agreement signed in between Ankawa, Sterling Heights

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – After more than a year of negotiations about making a sisterhood agreement between Ankawa in Erbil in Kurdistan Region and Sterling in Michigan in  the United State.

The agreement signed between the two towns of majority Christian populated, Ankawa and Sterling Heights in Detroit, Michigan.

Kurdistan 24 arranged interview with both Mr. Nuri and Mr. Taylor, they expressed their passion regarding that summit between both towns.

Rami Nuri, the Mayor of Ankawa, clarified to Kurdistan 24 “we have signed a sisterhood agreement with Sterling Heights in Michigan. It is very important to develop relations for Ankawa Christian community in general in the Kurdistan Regional Government,”

“This is a natural partnership and not only is it an event, but what we do is important. We share our views, how we run our governments, and they tell us theirs” Sterling Heights Mayor sated to Kurdistan 24 “we support them in education, business and economic development. They assist us in cultural and other matters”

He added “that will be a great partnership for both towns and communities about how to serve the residents. I'm very delighted”

The idea came from the Michigan Chaldean Community Foundation, until the final stage of the agreement reached and signed, the Kurdistan Regional Government's representatives in Washington held regular meetings and discussions with Sterling Heights officials.

Trifa Aziz, the Kurdistan Regional Government's representative in the United States said “our mission here in the United States has been working with both sides for more than a year to establish this partnership. The process will be an important assignment similar to the other sister agreement, both Ankawa and Sterling Heights have multi-diversity in communities and they share their values together, and that only produces successful projects”

Martin Manna, the Head of the American Chaldean Chamber of Commerce said “we are very grateful to the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Prime Minister, and a number of persons in Michigan, who facilitated this process,”

“Our role was to propose Sterling Heights, we live and work here, it was suggested to connect it with Ankawa. We thought this would be the first of a number of opportunities for sisterhood and fellowship country, were proposed to us in Washington, DC.” Mr. Manna added.

It is decided that this agreement, the two towns of Ankawa and Sterling Heights will work on cultural exchanges. Some of Ankawa employees will be sent out to Sterling Heights annually to get trained and experiences in admin managerial in a modern way.

Both towns aim to develop their relations and cooperate in many areas by signing the agreement.
