ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a National Security Council meeting on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of monitoring the import of electronic devices to prevent potential hacking threats.

He urged the council to exercise caution when signing contracts with electronics companies, underscoring the critical need for cybersecurity measures to safeguard national security.

In addition to addressing domestic security concerns, the meeting focused on the ongoing crisis in Lebanon following a series of devastating explosions. Over the past two days, the explosions have claimed at least 21 lives, injured thousands, and caused widespread panic.

On Tuesday, 12 people, including two children, were killed, and approximately 2,800 others were wounded when hundreds of pagers, used by Hezbollah members, detonated across Lebanon in various locations. The following day, a second wave of explosions involving walkie-talkies resulted in nine more fatalities and over 300 injuries, according to Lebanon's health ministry.

The council discussed the need for urgent medical and humanitarian assistance for those affected by the blasts in Lebanon, with Prime Minister al-Sudani calling on Iraq to contribute to relief efforts.
