ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure across the region.

Over the past two years, local authorities have successfully mapped, paved, and completed 500 kilometers of roads, installed 15,000 traffic signals, and erected approximately 40 kilometers of iron fencing.

Notably, this progress marks a shift from reliance on foreign companies to local expertise. In the past, road mapping and infrastructure development were typically outsourced to international firms.

However, the KRG has invested in training and equipping local workers, enabling them to take ownership of these crucial projects.

Dilan Abdullah, Head of the Traffic Engineering Directorate in the Kurdistan Region, highlighted the benefits of this transition.

"Now, with lower costs, better quality, and faster turnaround times, drawing maps of streets and roads for governorates and independent administrations takes only hours," Abdullah told the Department of Media and Information.

This achievement aligns with the current regional government's focus on developing the region's economic infrastructure.

The KRG is actively working to establish and expand the road and transportation network in all cities and regions, aiming to boost connectivity and facilitate economic growth.
