More than 3.5 tons of drugs seized in Iraq this year

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Despites of the fact of taking serious actions against the drug dealers, users and misusers in Iraq, yet fast spreading throughout the country, it is understood it is out of control.
The sources revealed that drugs are snatched from Syria and Iran into Iraq.
“We are working to issue a law to reduce this dangerous scourge on society,” said Yasser Husseini, a member of the Iraqi Parliament's Anti-drug Committee, “the number of drugs seized this year was 3.5 tons, most of the drugs are brought to Iraq are through border crossings, and the amount is increasing”
According to the law proposed bill, in addition to traffickers and addicts, compulsory drug test, is said to take place in universities, restaurants, gyms and before the marriage, as it is thought it would put a limit to the spread of these substances.
The member of the Iraqi Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Abdul Amir Mayahi said “most of the drugs are smuggled into Iraq from the border countries, but the Parliament supports these proposals that government provides, to control border crossings to ward off the sale, trafficking of drugs, as now circulated in society, universities and even high schools”
Meanwhile, Colonel Maliki from the Legal Committee at the Iraqi Parliament, believes to fight drugs doesn’t only need issuing laws, but also need efforts from larger community.
He added “the amendment to the anti-drug law has been given the first and second reading in parliament, it even includes to do a compulsory drug testing to people”
