Spilk-Khalifan highway boosts Soran's economy, tourism

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Spilk-Khalifan Highway, a recently finished infrastructure project in the Soran Independent Administration, is already making a significant impact. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani initiated the project back on September 15, 2022, and its completion is being hailed as a major step forward for the region.
Spanning 8.5 kilometers and built at a cost of 64 billion dinars, the highway stretches from the Spilk Road curves to the entrance of Khalifan town.
It forms a crucial link between Erbil and Soran, and is also integrated into the broader Hamilton Road network that connects the Haji Omaran border crossing with Erbil Governorate.
Local residents have welcomed the project with enthusiasm, expressing their appreciation for the improved accessibility and convenience the highway provides.
“We thank the Kurdistan Regional Government for making travel and movement easier with the construction of this road,” a resident remarked.
The Spilk-Khalifan Highway is anticipated to play a vital role in revitalizing the local economy. By improving connectivity, it's expected to boost trade and commerce, as well as stimulate the tourism sector in the scenic Soran region.
This project is one among 585 road projects completed by the current Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing infrastructure and facilitating growth across the region.
