The statement noted that "elements outside the law" are continuing to disrupt peace, the latest incident being a rocket attack at 12:20 AM on October 1, when two Katyusha rockets struck the airport.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Federal Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that it has launched an investigation into the security force responsible for the Amiriya district of Baghdad, following a breach that led to a rocket attack on Baghdad International Airport.
In a statement, the ministry underscored its commitment to enhancing security across the country, but noted the continued efforts of "elements outside the law" to destabilize peace. The latest incident occurred at 12:20 AM on October 1, when two Katyusha rockets struck the airport.
One rocket landed in the garage of the Second Regiment of the Counter-Terrorism Service, while the other fell in an abandoned yard within the airport.
The Ministry of Interior has detained the commander of the security force responsible for the Amiriya district, where the rockets were launched, to investigate the failure to secure the area and protect public and private property.
Major General Yahya Rasul, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, emphasized that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has directed the Minister of Interior to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident.
The Iraqi Prime Minister has ordered that the reasons for the security breach be determined and the individuals responsible be identified within 48 hours, with the results of the investigation to be publicly announced.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to holding accountable anyone attempting to undermine the security and stability of Iraq, as it continues efforts to prevent further incidents of this nature.
