ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The agricultural sector in the Kurdistan Region has seen substantial growth under the leadership of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s ninth cabinet, according to Jotiar Adel, Head of the Department of Media and Information.

He revealed on Saturday that agricultural investment had increased from 1.8 percent to 8 percent, despite the challenges faced by the region.

Adel attributed this growth to the strategic leadership of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, emphasizing the premier's deep understanding and proactive approach to tackling crises.

“The prime minister has been able to overcome the crises. Managing and solving the crises in this region is not an easy task,” Adel told Kurdistan24.

He praised Barzani’s ability to provide solutions during challenging periods, including the ongoing financial crisis, oil export issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adel also highlighted how the diversification of revenue sources played a key role in the region’s economic resilience.

"While Baghdad did not send the budget and stopped oil exports, we thought about agriculture and industry. Investment in agriculture rose from 1.8 percent to 8 percent," he said, underscoring the significance of this development in ensuring continued salary payments during the pandemic.

In addition to the agricultural sector, Adel pointed out that significant investments were made in various sectors.

"A number of investors have been brought to Kurdistan. For example, $16.6 billion of investment capital has been invested in the Kurdistan Region in the new cabinet, and about 994 factories have been opened," he noted.

Adel further praised Barzani’s administrative style, citing his thorough approach to government meetings and reforms. “There was a ministry that was preparing a week in advance. They said that Prime Minister Masrour Barzani emphasizes for all the details to be ready,” Adel said.

He added that Barzani’s personality, coupled with his sense of responsibility, played a significant role in driving the region’s progress.

On the subject of reforms, Adel emphasized Barzani’s commitment to combating corruption and fostering an environment that prioritizes reform.

“The environment in which corruption is encouraged has led us to control and improve the situation. The main dream of reform is to pave the way for progress, not corruption,” he explained.
