Masrour Barzani calls for leadership that sacrifices for the people in speech to Duhok educators
Amid his address to the educators at Duhok University, KDP Vice President Barzani underscored the importance of electing leaders who prioritize the well-being of the nation over personal gain.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a speech to educators at Duhok University, Masrour Barzani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), emphasized the need for leadership that is willing to sacrifice for the people, not the other way around.
Amid his address to the educators at Duhok University, KDP Vice President Barzani underscored the importance of electing leaders who prioritize the well-being of the nation over personal gain.
“If our country is forced to sacrifice, the leadership ought to be elected that can sacrifice themselves for the people, unlike others who sacrifice the people for their own sake,” Barzani remarked. “The KDP, founded by the late Mullah Mustafa Barzani and still led by President Barzani, has always put the nation first and sacrificed itself for the Kurdish people.”
He highlighted the historical significance of the KDP, noting that it was established out of a national need when the Kurdish people were facing extermination and despair.
"The late Mr. Barzani created the KDP as a liberation movement for all sections of Kurdistan, regardless of opinion, religion, or nationality. It was a wise decision that led to the formation of a national liberation movement across Kurdistan," Barzani said.
He added that the survival and success of the KDP over the years can be attributed to the wise decisions of its founder, and he expressed pride in continuing this legacy.
Barzani also took the opportunity to praise Kurdistan’s teachers for their resilience in the face of economic hardships. “Teachers have not only taught but have also demonstrated, through their perseverance, that one must sacrifice for the good of their country and nation,” he said.
He commended their dedication for ensuring that the educational process continued despite financial pressures, ensuring that students did not miss out on their education.
Turning to the challenges faced by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Barzani addressed the various conspiracies aimed at weakening the region’s constitutional entity.
“There were many attempts to defeat the KRG, but we resisted the pressure to preserve our experience and continue our path. The more pressure our opponents exerted, the stronger we felt the support of the Kurdish people,” he noted.
Barzani described this support as the greatest asset for any government, stating, "As long as the people are with you, no force can break you."
Looking to the future of education, Barzani outlined several initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education across Kurdistan. While acknowledging the progress being made, he also noted the existing shortcomings in infrastructure and resources.
"We need better facilities, laboratories, and equipment for both teachers and students to continue the educational process in a modern way," he said.
However, Barzani emphasized that education goes beyond academics. “No matter how advanced an educational process is, if it does not promote social solidarity, peaceful coexistence, and national sentiment, it has failed in its mission,” he stressed.
He called on teachers to instill values of respect for the environment and the nation in their students to help develop a healthier society.
Barzani called for an increase in KRG revenues to better serve the people of Kurdistan, stating, “We must expand the capacity of the government to meet the needs of our people.”
