ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) –The Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani set the cornerstone of the Erbil-Koya Road on Thursday, October 10, The main thing is to connect Erbil to Sulaimani.”

"We have had many programs and plans to build a good network of roads to connect all cities and we are gradually implementing that plan,"

The length of the Erbil-Koya Highway is 38km and will be operated with budget 403 billion dinars within three years.

The road is 32 meters wide and will be built with modern quality and design. Along with the construction of such motorway, a new 250-metre bridge with five overpasses will be built to connect the areas near the road.

“In the name God the Almighty and the compassionate

Dear attendance

I am very delighted to be here for setting the cornerstone of building the Erbil-Koya highway, two weeks ago I visited a school in Koya city, for ringing the bell to set the Start Day of the academic year for schools.

Down there, I promised the beloved people of Koya city that we will build Erbil-Koya highway, as well as commencing the application of constructing it.

Thank God, we are, after two weeks, gathering here, to put our promise in action.

Definitely, that motorway will be very helpful to connect Koya city, Taqtaq and areas around to Erbil the capital city.

Also, it will be helpful for the major highway from Erbil to Sulaimani, completing the highway, to connect them together, and we will make all our cities connect to each other.

We have had many plans and programs to create highway networks and connect all the cities to each other.

Gradually, we are busy with applying that plan. A long while ago, several years ago, there was a decision to build and operate Erbil-Koya highway.

But, for different reasons, also the troubles were faced by the regional government and its previous cabinets, this project was not operated.

Now, we have decided to implement it with a newer, wider and better design, with the quality and international standards, to implementing this plan.

I hope the operating company, soon, be able to put this major road at the service of all the people.

There is no doubt all the cities in Kurdistan need more and more services and serving, as well as people in Koya deserve to be better served.

I hope there wouldn’t be any more interruptions or obstacles ahead, so we can give the welfare, prosperity, developing the economic infrastructure also all other serving work to all the cities and towns in Kurdistan.

From that perspective, we make real attempts for all the government’s projects, indiscriminately, get accomplished. 

 Even before, the government’s decision was to operate projects and services in all provinces, cities and areas.

Decisions about projects were made as well as budgets were allocated, but regarding funding and implementing, sadly, there were obstacles.

I hope those obstacles would not be there any longer.

So, all of us can be pleased with such attempts and services campaigns we have started with in the government.

I ask people, after operating those services and such highways, to respect the guidelines, traffic rules, also respect the road limits and not to breach or exceed them.

Building those major roads are as useful to speed up the travelling between two cities as providing safety and reducing traffic accidents. It also makes our country look nice.

Exceeding limits will cause road accidents as well as road look gets ruined. That’s why I ask people to follow the guidelines as they are set.

So, we can serve them more.

Just the way I saw and heard that there are places designated for people who want to work nearby the highways, specific places will be built and provided to them.

Therefore, if following, accordingly to the guidelines, all of us to assist and apply the program we have, believe it, in all aspects, we can serve, more, ourselves as Kurdistan’s people and to serve our country.

I am glad, today, we are coming across the implementing phase of this project, I hope to come back soon to open this highway, and to be able to use it for transport.
