Iraq's Media Commission Chief Calls for Kurdistan24's Influence to Expand Nationwide
Baligh Abu Kalal praises the channel's strong standing in the Kurdistan Region, saying its presence and reach across Iraq would be a source of pride
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraq's Head of the Executive Body of the Communications and Media Commission, Baligh Mithqal Abu Kalal, praised Kurdistan24's influence and prominent position in the Kurdistan Region on Saturday, calling for the channel to extend its reach and impact across Iraq.
Speaking on the occasion of Kurdistan24's 11th anniversary on October 31, 2026, Abu Kalal described the broadcaster as a major media institution with considerable influence in the Kurdistan Region.
He said he hoped that its reach would expand to the wider Iraqi media landscape and that its strong voice would reach audiences throughout the country.
Abu Kalal also expressed his wishes for the channel's continued success and called for closer cooperation between the two sides, saying expanded coordination would help Kurdistan24 continue serving as a bridge of trust in delivering accurate information across Iraq.
“Having a Kurdish channel from our beloved Kurdistan reaching all of Iraq is a source of pride,” he said.
Kurdistan24 was established in 2015 as an institution for research and media. Over the past 11 years, it has expanded its television and digital coverage of political, security, economic, and social developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider Middle East.
The Communications and Media Commission is Iraq's independent regulatory body responsible for overseeing the country's broadcasting, telecommunications, and media sectors. Its role includes regulating media institutions, licensing broadcasters, and supporting the development of the communications environment.
Abu Kalal's remarks highlight the importance of cooperation between media institutions across Iraq and the potential for Kurdish media outlets to contribute to the country's wider media landscape.
