PM Masrour Barzani inaugurates Bastora Dam in Erbil

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially inaugurated the Bastora Dam on Monday in a special ceremony.
The dam, constructed by the Kar Group, marks a significant milestone in Erbil province's development.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his satisfaction with the project's completion within a year of laying its foundation stone. He extended his gratitude to Sheikh Baz Barzanji, Chairman of the Kar Group of Companies, for their efficient work.
"The construction of these dams aligns with our government's strategy to harness Kurdistan's water resources and ensure water security," Prime Minister Barzani emphasized. "Such dams will have a far-reaching impact on the development of Kurdistan's economy in various sectors, including tourism, energy provision, fisheries resources, groundwater conditions, and climate change mitigation."

The Bastora Dam holds historical significance, as a dam was previously built near the site during the time of Sennacherib to supply water to Erbil. Prime Minister Barzani highlighted the dam's potential as a tourist attraction due to its historical importance.
He called upon the Kurdish people to actively participate in protecting the newly constructed projects and to preserve the environment. The Prime Minister urged citizens to refrain from modifying or damaging the natural surroundings.
