Special voting turnout reaches 70% in Kurdistan parliamentary elections: IHEC
The IHEC announced that the special voting turnout for the capital city Erbil is at 70%, while the rate in Sulaimani is 67% with Duhok having registered a 77% voter turnout so far for the sixth parliamentary election.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq has released the turnout figures for the special voting in the Kurdistan Region's sixth parliamentary elections.
According to the IHEC's statement on Friday, the overall turnout has reached 70% across voting centers in the Kurdistan Region and several other Iraqi cities.
The breakdown of participation rates by governorates is as follows:
- Erbil: 70%
- Sulaymaniyah: 67%
- Duhok: 77%
- Halabja: 64%
- Nineveh: 30%
- Baghdad: 67%
- Kirkuk: 43%
- Anbar: 7%
- Salahuddin: 67%
- Diyala: 56%
- Wasit: 3%
The special voting process, which began at 7:00 AM and will continue until 6:00 PM, is specifically for security forces and other eligible special voters.
The IHEC is overseeing the entire electoral process.
According to IHEC statistics, out of the total 2,889,878 eligible voters for the Kurdistan Parliament's sixth term election, 215,960 are classified as special voters participating in today's poll. The distribution of special voters by electoral districts is as follows:
- Erbil district: 89,791
- Sulaymaniyah district: 78,661
- Duhok district: 46,556
- Halabja district: 952
The general election for the broader populace is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2024. The IHEC has announced that preliminary results will be released within 24 hours of the conclusion of the voting process.
