'Elections proceeding peacefully', says KRG Interior Minister, urges voters to consider past performance

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Kurdistan Region's Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad cast his vote for the sixth parliamentary elections on Sunday, emphasizing that the electoral process is proceeding in a peaceful atmosphere while urging voters to make informed decisions based on candidates' past performance.
Speaking to Kurdistan 24 reporter Nawras Abdullah after voting at a polling station in Erbil, Minister Ahmad, who is also a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Political Bureau, expressed his satisfaction with the voting process and encouraged citizens to exercise their democratic right within the timeframe set by Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC).
"Voters should cast their ballots for those they believe will best serve their interests, taking into account past performance to make informed decisions," Ahmad stated. "They should vote according to their conscience to secure a better and more comfortable future for themselves and their children."
The Interior Minister also called on Kurdistan's citizens to "reward the Peshmerga, security forces, and all those who have served the people" through their votes.
Regarding the electoral process, Ahmad noted that both the special voting held on Friday, Oct.18, 2024, and today's general voting have been proceeding "very smoothly and in a peaceful atmosphere."
The general voting for Kurdistan Parliament's sixth term began at 7:00 AM today, with 2,686,578 eligible voters across the four electoral districts of Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, and Halabja participating in this democratic process.
