'Elections conducted with smooth efficiency, transparency, integrity', says IHEC Board Chairman

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Board of Commissioners confirmed on Sunday that ballot boxes for the Kurdistan Parliament elections will close at 6:00 PM local time, noting that general voting is proceeding smoothly across the region.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Board Chairman Omar Ahmed emphasized that "the voting process for the Kurdistan Region elections has been conducted with smooth efficiency, transparency, and integrity." He added that "the Commission maintains complete control over electoral centers and polling stations, while any external security breaches fall under the responsibility of security forces."

Ahmed announced that "general voting ballot boxes for the Kurdistan Parliament elections will close at 6:00 PM, with results to be announced within 24 hours of closure." He highlighted that "international monitoring reinforces the transparency and integrity of the Kurdistan Region elections."

The Board Chairman confirmed that "no violations have occurred during the Kurdistan Parliament election process that could impact the electoral integrity," noting that "the electoral process is progressing well thus far today."

The general voting process for the Kurdistan Region Parliament elections commenced at 7:00 AM on Oct. 20, 2024. According to official figures, 2,683,618 voters are participating in the general elections out of 2,899,578 eligible voters in the Kurdistan Region.

The Independent High Electoral Commission reported that 16 consulates, 15 organizations, and 22 international media outlets, along with 9,610 local organizations and observers, and 43,139 political party representatives are monitoring the electoral process in the Kurdistan Region.
