ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region's parliamentary elections concluded at 6:00 PM on Sunday.

Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections see 2,686,578 eligible voters across four constituencies—Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, and Halabja—taking part in the democratic process.

Despite six years of delays to the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) remained steadfast in its demand for transparent, free, and fair elections. On Sunday, the general vote for the sixth round of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections was finally held.

The Kurdistan Region’s journey toward democracy began 32 years ago, on May 19, 1992, with its first democratic elections, overseen by representatives from numerous foreign human rights and democracy organizations, European countries, and international journalists. Since then, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has held five election cycles, making several reforms to the electoral process to strengthen democracy in the region.
