IHEC announces preliminary results of Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections

A total of 2,899,578 people were eligible to vote, of which 2,087,972 exercised their right. The number of polling stations across the Kurdistan Region was 7,070, serving both special and general voting categories.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has released the preliminary results of the sixth round of Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections, held on Sunday. IHEC Chairman Omar Ahmed Mohammed addressed the press, highlighting the smooth electoral process due to thorough preparations.

"The elections went very well because all preparations were made for the success of the process," Mohammed stated. He further revealed that over 2 million people participated in the elections, with an overall voter turnout of 72%. Of the total results, 99.63% will be announced today, with the remaining percentage delayed due to minor technical issues.

Breakdown by Province:

- Erbil:

- 1,023,606 eligible voters

- 762,929 people voted (74.53% turnout).

- 2,520 polling stations, with results from 13 stations delayed due to equipment issues.

- Sulaimani:

- 1,087,192 eligible voters

- 715,499 people voted (65.81% turnout)

- 2,650 polling stations, including 535 special polling stations. Results from six stations were not collected due to technical difficulties.

- Halabja:

- 60,252 eligible voters

- 41,671 people voted (69.16% turnout).

- 28 polling bases, covering 139 polling stations.

- Duhok:

- 722,397 eligible voters

- 564,494 people voted (78.14% turnout).

- 297 polling bases, with results from seven stations withheld due to equipment problems.

Mohammed emphasized that these results are preliminary and will be open for appeal only after the official announcement of the final results. Despite minor delays in reporting from a few stations, the overall electoral process was declared a success.
