ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Ali Hussein, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)’s Organizational Bureau in Sulaimani and Halabja, announced the KDP’s increased success in the recent Kurdistan Region Parliamentary elections, marking a significant gain in Halabja. Speaking at a press conference, Hussein emphasized that the KDP's electoral victory is a victory for all the people of Kurdistan.

"The KDP’s victory is the victory of the entire Kurdistan people," Hussein declared, expressing satisfaction with the party's performance in the parliamentary elections, which he described as being conducted democratically. "The elections showed the true weight of each political party," he added, underscoring the transparency and fairness of the process.

Hussein also made it clear that the KDP holds no veto over any political party willing to support the agenda of the next government. He stressed the importance of forming a government that truly serves the people, rather than one where political parties take on governing responsibilities.

"The next government should be the government of the people," he said, adding that political parties should no longer overstep their role in managing the country's affairs.

This statement reflects the KDP’s stance on moving towards a more inclusive and people-centered governance model as the region looks ahead to the formation of the next government.

The elections, held on Sunday, saw 2,087,972 eligible voters from across four constituencies—Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, and Halabja—participate in the democratic process. The high voter turnout demonstrated the strong engagement of the people in shaping the future of the Kurdistan Region.

On Monday, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) released preliminary results of the sixth round of the parliamentary elections. IHEC Chairman Omar Ahmed Mohammed, during a press briefing, emphasized the smooth and well-organized process, crediting extensive preparations for its success.

“The elections proceeded very well due to the thorough preparations that were made to ensure the success of the process,” Mohammed stated. He also revealed that over 2 million voters participated in the election, marking an impressive voter turnout of 72%. Of the total vote count, 99.63% of the results were announced on Tuesday, with the remaining portion delayed due to minor technical issues.

In total, 2,899,578 people were eligible to vote, with 2,087,972 citizens casting their ballots. The region’s 7,070 polling stations facilitated the voting process, accommodating both general and special voting categories.
