Turkmen Reform Party urges swift government formation, raises representation concerns
"A week has passed since the elections. People expect the formation of the tenth cabinet rather than being distracted by secondary issues like Tawteen, which could delay government formation and sideline important public concerns," she emphasized.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Muna Nabi Kahveci, Deputy Head of the Turkmen Reform Party, called for an immediate focus on forming Kurdistan's tenth cabinet, warning against distractions from secondary issues like the "Tawteen" banking initiative.
"Kurdistan now has legislative authority, and we expect discussions to begin promptly to establish a strong government," Kahveci told Kurdistan24.
She expressed support for anticipated leadership by Masrour Barzani in forming the new cabinet, given his party's plurality in parliament.
Addressing community representation concerns, Kahveci highlighted several key issues:
- Disappointment with the distribution of minority quota seats across electoral districts
- Concern over securing only one seat in Erbil despite the Turkmen community being the second-largest ethnic group in the province
- Current allocation of two Turkmen seats total: one each in Erbil and Sulaimani provinces
"We hope the sixth parliament will amend laws governing minority representation to restore seats unfairly taken from our communities," Kahveci stated.
She also noted the mixed response to minority rights during the election campaign, with some parties supporting increased representation while others used "inappropriate and hostile rhetoric."
