ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Region's Electoral Commission has received only two appeals challenging the final results of the recent parliamentary elections, according to the head of the Commission's Appeals Committee.

Ali Qadir, who oversees the Appeals Committee at the Kurdistan Region branch of Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), told Kurdistan24 that today's 3 PM deadline marks the end of the appeal submission period for political parties.

"The notably low number of appeals can be attributed to our transparent approach," Qadir explained. "The Commission provided all political parties with voting cards data from all stations and centers beforehand, which gave them clear visibility into the electoral process."

The sixth Kurdistan Parliament election, held on Oct. 20, 2024, with special voting taking place on Oct. 18, saw a significant voter turnout of approximately 70% across both voting days, according to IHEC statistics.

This high turnout and low number of appeals stand in contrast to previous elections in the region, potentially indicating improved electoral procedures and transparency.

The Commission's decision to share detailed voting data with political parties represents a significant step toward ensuring electoral integrity and reducing post-election disputes.

The Appeals Committee will now review the two submitted challenges according to established procedures. The timing of final results certification will depend on the resolution of these appeals.
