ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – On Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, USA citizens will decide who will go to the White House and shape the map of the foreign and domestic policy for the next four years. Registering to vote and submitting a ballot is facilitated, and can be done from anywhere in the world!

The election process in the United States of America is not straight forward, the president cannot be elected directly by the citizens votes. Such system is dated back to the founding fathers in the United States in 1776 when the country gained its independency.

A designed system has developed over two centuries, with different forms among all other countries in the world, especially the way to elect the president.

Election for a president of the United States happens every four years, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, in the US presidential election, the people do not vote directly for the president.

After candidates register with the Federal Election Commission to run for presidency, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) compile the information about elections and voting elects the president.

The Electoral College is the process by which the United States elects the president, however, it's not been referred to in the U.S. Constitution. In the process, the states elect the President and Vice President.

Then political parties should have held nominating conventions to choose their presidential candidates, in the month of November the Election Day falls on the first Tuesday after the first Monday.

The number of members of the association is 538, each with one vote, divided according to the population of the state. The number of electoral college is equal to the number of members of Congress; The members of Congress consist of 538 members, including 438 members of the House of Representatives and 100 members of the Senate.

The way electoral colleges are elected varies from one state to another, but on election day, when the residents of any state vote for any party's presidential candidate, their votes go to the electoral commission, which elects the electoral commission.

In December Electors cast their votes for president in the Electoral College to vote on the election of the president, but generally the representatives of each party elected to the council vote for that party's presidential candidate.

In January, Congress counts the electoral votes, and on January 20th (This time is 2025) Presidential Inauguration Day takes place.

So after the name of the new president is decided, the president will be sworn in on January 20 the following year (This time is 2025). According to the US Constitution, the president and vice president must not be citizens of the same state.
