Iraqi National Security Advisor, KRG Interior Minister visit Tehran to discuss regional security and border stability

The Iraqi National Security Office reported that discussions between al-Araji, Ahmed, and Araghchi centered on recent developments in the Middle East, with a particular focus on issues impacting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed arrived in Tehran on Sunday for an official visit, marking a key step in Iraq-Iran diplomatic and security relations. The delegation was welcomed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The Iraqi National Security Office reported that discussions between al-Araji, Ahmed, and Araghchi centered on recent developments in the Middle East, with a particular focus on issues impacting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The leaders exchanged perspectives on regional stability, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts in maintaining security along the Iraq-Iran border.

High on the agenda was the implementation of the joint security agreement between Iraq and Iran, which aims to foster ongoing cooperation in countering cross-border threats. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening security collaboration to prevent potential destabilizing influences from affecting each nation.

In addition to security topics, the officials discussed the need for stronger strategic relations across various sectors, underscoring the benefits of enhanced bilateral engagement between Iraq and Iran. Kurdistan24 has learned that al-Araji’s visit is intended as a follow-up on the recent security agreement, as well as an opportunity to address new regional challenges that could impact both nations.
