ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The United States, Germany, France, and the UK issued a joint statement on Sunday about the recent clashes in Syria, urging for de-escalation, conflict’s cessation between pro-government and opposition forces, and the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The statement, which was published by the US Department of State, highlights that the developments in Syria are closely monitored and that the priority is to de-escalate and protect the civilian populations.

The four countries also expressed concern for further displacement of people due to the conflicts.

Additionally, the joint statement proposes that the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 could be used to calm the current escalations in Syria.

The joint statement by the US, UK, France, and Germany resonates well with the United Nation’s call for de-escalation.

On Saturday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that armed groups led by Turkish-backed Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies has “successfully controlled several key villages and towns in Aleppo.”

Following the rapid capture of these areas, the Turkish-backed armed militia, which is also a UN and US-designated terrorist organization, succeeded in controlling Aleppo.

The Syrian Defense Ministry and Syrian Army have repeatedly stressed that they are making preparations for a counter-offensive to reclaim the lost territories. As the situation develops, there are reports that the Syrian army is amassing its troops around the outskirts of Aleppo in an attempt to regain control.
