ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a revealing investigation, Kurdistan24 has become the first Kurdish media outlet to access and document mass graves near Damascus, exposing evidence of systematic killings that have been committed under the Assad regime.
The investigative team visited the "Baghdad Bridge" cemetery, situated 30 kilometers outside of Damascus, where they found thousands of bodies buried in mass graves.
Remains of each victim were discovered in sacks, clearly marked with identification numbers and names.
This is suggesting a well thought-out and methodical documentation process by the Assad regime in conducting its mass killings.
A local witness, speaking exclusively to Kurdistan24’s Dilan Barzan, revealed the cruel reality of these mass graves by opening one of the sacks: "These are human remains of someone killed by the Syrian regime. These graves contain nearly five to six thousand bodies."
The witness pointed to one sack labeled "Raad Mahmoud, Prisoner #125," explaining, "This body, along with thousands of others, was brought here by Assad's regime. They dug pits and buried them in mass graves."
The eyewitness offered an unsettling account of the systematic nature of these mass burials: "I witnessed the process with my own eyes as the Syrian regime brought bodies here daily by vehicle, dug pits, and later buried them."
This finding signifies one of the most noteworthy pieces of evidence detailing the Assad regime's human rights violations against its own citizens, providing crucial documentation for potential future war crimes investigations.
