Iraq reaffirms support for Syria’s minority rights

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani reiterated Iraq's unwavering support for Syria's territorial integrity, civil peace, and the rights of minorities during a meeting on Sunday with Mohamed al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's media office.
The meeting emphasized Iraq's commitment to strengthening its relations with the United Nations, advancing economic reforms, and addressing regional developments, particularly the crisis in Syria.
The Iraqi premier stressed Iraq's dedication to maintaining Syrian unity, preserving social harmony, and protecting cultural, ethnic, and minority rights within the country. He reaffirmed Iraq's principle of non-interference in internal affairs, expressing readiness to assist the Syrian people in navigating ongoing challenges.
The Prime Minister also highlighted his government's ongoing efforts to implement economic reforms, combat corruption, and foster stability in alignment with its program for national development.
Al-Hassan praised Iraq's reform initiatives, commending the government's strides toward achieving sustainable growth and stability. He also lauded Iraq’s humanitarian contributions, including its support for the Syrian people and aid provided to Lebanon and Palestine amidst their respective crises.
