Over 100,000 killed under Assad's rule discovered in mass grave

The estimates are that ever since the start of clashes in Syria in 2011, which transformed into bloodshed and civil war, the Syrian regime under the ousted president Bashar al-Assad killed hundreds of thousands of Syrians.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A US-based Syrian Human Rights organization announced the discovery of a mass grave on the outskirts of Damascus that contained more than 100,000 bodies that were killed by the former government of ousted president Bashar al-Assad.

Mouaz Moustafa, the head of the advocacy organization Syrian Emergency Task Force, said that the site which is located at al-Qutayfah, 40 km north of Damascus, was one of the five mass graves that has been identified during the past few years.

"One hundred thousand is the most conservative estimate. It's a very, very extremely almost unfairly conservative estimate,” he said.

The head of the advocacy organization confirmed that there are more mass graves than the five sites his organization has been following up and monitoring.

He also reiterated that some of the mass graves could potentially contain foreign nationals, including victims from the US and the UK.

The estimates are that ever since the start of clashes in Syria in 2011, which transformed into bloodshed and civil war, the Syrian regime under the ousted president Bashar al-Assad killed hundreds of thousands of Syrians.

The Assads, Hafez and Bashar, stand accused of widespread extrajudicial killings, including mass executions within the country's notorious prison system, by the Syrians, human rights groups, and other governments.

The ousted president continually denied the claims that his government has been involved in such violations of human rights and continued to paint the opposition as extremists and terrorists to the last day of his grip on power.
