ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Several numbers of former Syrian army members turned up at reconciliation centers outside Damascus on Sunday to hand over their weapons and start processing their cases under the supervision of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) members.

Men and women visited the centers to return valuable government property in their possession, as part of a reconciliation process meant to further unify and reintegrate the Assad's forces in the new Syria.

Participants are being issued temporary clearance cards valid for three months.

"Those who do not face criminal charges will be permitted to restart their normal lives," Lieutenant Colonel Raed Walid Abdul Rabbo told Reuters.

He further clarified, "The future depends on leadership decisions. Certainly, those who have not shed our blood will live a normal life like any other citizen. However, those who bear legal responsibility and have cases against them, their files are with the judicial authority and courts."

This reconciliation initiative signifies another step in the post-Assad Syrian government's attempts to reintegrate former military personnel and strengthen control in areas around the capital.
