ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, a delegation from the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Finance and Economy arrived in Baghdad to address outstanding salary payments for November and December.
A source from the KRG Finance Ministry told Kurdistan24 reporter Hoshmand Sadiq that "the delegation arrived in Baghdad on Saturday evening (Dec. 21, 2024)."
The delegation consists of the General Director of Accounting, the General Director of Budget, and several ministry advisors.
As stated by the Kurdistan24 source, the delegation brought December's salary lists for Kurdistan Region employees to submit to Iraq's Ministry of Finance.
The source specified that the fate of both November and December salaries would be decided within the next 24 hours.
Earlier, on Monday (Dec. 16, 2024), the KRG Finance Ministry announced October's salary payments and issued a three-point explanation concerning November salaries and the suspension of payments for employees who haven't completed biometric registration:
- The allocated funds from Kurdistan Region's share for covering salary deficits, though approved for transfer, have not yet been deposited into the ministry's bank account.
- The funding for November salaries, despite being approved by Iraq's Finance Ministry, has also not been deposited into the KRG's bank account.
- Any employee who has not yet registered in the biometric system will have their salary withheld at their department until they complete the biometric coding process during these final days of the year, after which their salary will be disbursed.
The continuing salary negotiations underline the ongoing financial coordination challenges between Baghdad and Erbil, predominantly concerning public sector payments in the Kurdistan Region.
