French FM urges new Syrian government to engage with Kurdish administration for political solution
During his visit to Damascus on Friday, Barrot emphasized the importance of involving France’s Kurdish allies in the political process to resolve Syria’s ongoing crisis.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Friday called on Syria’s new leadership to negotiate a political solution with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
During his visit to Damascus on Friday, Barrot emphasized the importance of involving France’s Kurdish allies in the political process to resolve Syria’s ongoing crisis.
"A political solution must be reached with France's allies, the Kurds, so that they are fully integrated into this political process that is beginning today," Barrot stated during a meeting with members of Syria’s civil society.
Barrot’s remarks underscore France’s commitment to ensuring the participation of the Kurdish administration in shaping Syria’s future governance. The Autonomous Administration, which governs significant parts of northeastern Syria, has been a key partner in the international coalition against ISIS.
The French minister's visit marks a significant diplomatic effort to support inclusive dialogue in Syria, as the country seeks to stabilize following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The French foreign ministry said that on Thursday, Barrot spoke with Mazloum Abdi, the commander-in-chief of the US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and discussed "the ongoing transition in Syria."
