ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A US delegation met with the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) on Sunday to emphasize the importance of Kurdish unity in the evolving political landscape of Syria, according to Faysal Yusuf, spokesperson for the KNCS.

In a statement to Kurdistan24, Yusuf highlighted that the discussions centered on the role of the Kurdish people in shaping the future Syrian political process. “The unity of the Kurdish people and their participation in Syria's political process was a key topic during our meeting with the US delegation,” Yusuf said.

The talks also addressed the broader issue of inclusivity in Syria's future government. “The participation of different communities in the new Syrian government was another topic of discussion,” Yusuf added, underscoring the need for representation of all ethnic and religious groups in post-war governance.

Yusuf further emphasized the longstanding struggle of the Kurdish population in Syria. “We respect the Kurdish struggle and ideology. We support them because they have been fighting for their rights in Syria for many years. They must be part of the next Syrian government alongside the Arabs,” he stated.

Additionally, the US has proposed holding elections to ensure equal participation of all communities in the formation of a new Syrian state. “The US believes elections will pave the way for an inclusive Syria where all communities can contribute to shaping the future,” Yusuf remarked.

The meetings between the US delegation and Kurdish forces aim to foster stronger unity among Kurdish factions, enabling them to present a united front in upcoming political negotiations in Damascus and safeguard the interests of Syria's Kurdistan (Rojava).
