Construction progress reaches 60% at strategic Akre modern market complex in Kurdistan Region

The facility includes 234 shops, 20 warehouses, 35 retail outlets, 11 cold storage units, 2 weighing stations, a dedicated produce market, green spaces including a nursery, and designated parking facilities.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Monday, supervisor of the Akre Modern Market Complex project Nizar Ghazi announced that construction has reached 60% completion, marking noteworthy progress in the development of this major commercial infrastructure initiative.

The facility includes 234 shops, 20 warehouses, 35 retail outlets, 11 cold storage units, 2 weighing stations, a dedicated produce market, green spaces including a nursery, and designated parking facilities.

"64 shops are now wholly operational and ready for use. Local merchants and traders are currently in the process of moving their goods and products to commence business operations," Ghazi detailed in his statement to Kurdistan24.

Highlighting the project's strategic importance, Ghazi noted, "The Akre Modern Market Complex represents a key investment initiative intended to support and market agricultural products." He added, "This facility will serve communities across the region, from Qandil to Bardarash and Barzan."

The project was formally inaugurated by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. With an investment of $22 million and spanning 98 dunums (approximately 24.5 acres), the complex is set to become the second-largest commercial and modern market center across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
