ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — On Tuesday, a joint technical committee representing the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) held a meeting at the PUK Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil, indicating an important step in government formation negotiations.
Kurdistan24 correspondent Nawras Abdullah reported that the discussions are particularly focused on developing a joint programmatic framework for the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) tenth cabinet, rather than addressing the distribution of governmental positions.
The KDP delegation is represented by Pshtiwan Sadiq, Dilshad Shahab, and Omed Sabah, while the PUK delegation includes Rewaz Fayaq, Amanj Rahim, and Derbaz Kosrat Rasul.
As stated by the correspondent, if today's technical discussions produce positive outcomes, top delegations from both parties are likely to convene later this week.
That subsequent meeting could possibly address the allocation of government positions.
This is the third round of bilateral discussions intended to discuss the formation of the tenth KRG cabinet, following previous meetings held in Sulaimani on Nov. 30, 2024, and in Pirmam on Dec. 17, 2024.
The negotiations follow the Oct. 20, 2024, Kurdistan Parliament elections, where the KDP secured 39 seats and the PUK obtained 23 seats, establishing a new parliamentary configuration that requires strategic coalition building.
The continuous discussions signify a pivotal phase in the Kurdistan Region's democratic process, with potential implications for regional governance and political stability.
