ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Turkish Airlines announced on Wednesday that it would resume flights to the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Jan 23 after a hiatus of over a decade.

Bilal Ekşi, the CEO of Turkish Airlines, announced on X, “We will begin our flights to Damascus on Thursday, Jan. 23, with three flights per week.”

Qatar Airways had previously been the first airline to announce the resumption of its flights to Damascus International Airport earlier in January.

International flights to Damascus resumed on Jan. 7, nearly a month after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, marking a significant step towards rebuilding Syria's connections with the world.

In late December, Turkey, which has supported the new Syrian government expressed its readiness to help resume commercial flights to Damascus International Airport, particularly highlighted that the airport lacked radar systems.
